30 Days of Music RETURNS Stupid Day Sixteen: a song that you used to love but now hate

So I never finished this meme... lots of people have since started doing it on Facebook and it made me realize I suck and need to just past this stupid Day 16 that I never could and still can't think of a song for.

Against my Gemini Nature I am not a very fickle person. I like what I like and it takes a lot for me not to like whatever that may be.

This brings me to Day Sixteen and my altered version of it. This also brings me to Marilyn Manson.





I discovered Marilyn Manson around 1995. A friend I have since lost contact with showed us misfits hanging in the usual place (the would be the Acton Bickfords) and I was hooked. The songs were AMAZING the image was OUT OF CONTROL and it was all I could possibly want as a weird kid on the brink of being a weird adult.

Years go by, a cover song is released as a single, popularity grows, religious groups picket. I was excited. I remained excited. Manson backed up the image and the songs with brilliant tirades and gave interviews that made everyone think he MIGHT know what the deal is.

Then something happened. First a small show with my loverly friend Miss Banshee. The music sounded great but the cocaine fueled "talk" between songs was awful. I use quotes because I'll be dammed if there were actual words there. Then 2007 the first album after 4 years came out. It was terrible. The songs didn't make sense the interviews came across as babbling tirades. Mason was coming across as a bitter old man. The music scene was changing. The shock wasn't so shocking anymore and the music was tired. After 10+ years it seemed like all Manson cared about was money and drugs.

So this entry isn't just one song, since I still love all the songs between 1994 and 2003. But the band, who since 2003 has released 2 albums. The last one I didn't even bother to buy. And a person who basically has just become a parody of who they used to be.

Now we have Gaga... who is basically Manson from about 1999 in a tiny little girl package

Buffy and Me

So as many of us know already they announced the "recreation" of Buffy without Joss Whedon being involved. Then we also may know that Joss reacted and was brilliant and hilarious and awesome.

If you have even met me for a second you may know I am a HUGE Buffy fan. I have been for some time. Also you may have heard such rants as "Why is American television ruining all the British TV I love?" or "Do not fear subtitles" and lastly "LEAVE MY BELOVED FRANCHISE ALONE"

This last one falls into play here. I have sat by and watched them ruin 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' one of my favorite horror franchises of all time. I hear every so often that they are in "talks" to re-do "Evil Dead" (note: This will be the day I make my Jay and Silent Bob trip to LA). Then this news comes today.

I read a LOT of entertainment news, this rumor surfaced earlier this year and faded away. I had hoped it was because they realized it was the worst idea ever to be thought.

No such luck.


Buffy is one of the most important pop culture ingredients to me being me. I fell upon it while working at The Bar Everyone Knows Me From when one of my regulars asked me to turn it on. It was Season 2 and I mocked this middle aged gentlemen.He told me he had done the same until his teenage niece made him sit down and watch it with her. Whoever that 13 year old is now THANK YOU. I was hooked pretty quickly. I stopped working on nights it was on.

Then I entered FANDOM.


There were the Conventions, the Sing-a-longs, the trips out of state, the photo ops... the thousands and thousands of dollars. Once more Buffy hooked me in. Over the years I have met most of the main (and some not so main) cast members. All of which (minus a few, ok minus ONE) have been some of the most amazingly grateful and genuine people. I have bought and had many drinks, seen some things that I never imagined I would see when I started watching this little show on The WB

Through the Buffy fandom I have seen places I would never otherwise see (HELLO CATSKILL NY, EWWWW) met some of the most amazing people some of which are some of my best friends. I CONTINUE to meet amazing people from all over the US and the world. People who know they at least have one thing in common. The love of Buffy.

Never would I want to trade any of these experiences back. Every penny spent, every week living off ramen noodles worth it. So when I read things about them "reimagining" the franchise for a new film without one of the most CRITICAL parts of the show intact? I cringe and become angry and post an angry wordy blog about it.

Since it obviously is more that just a tv show.

I don't think there is one of these, but there HAS to be. But all those crappy songs? I still love them.

So instead I will talk about other things.

I went and saw the Jonas Brothers in concert. My dear friend ElleVee asked for every detail.




(holy crap random celebrity cameos!! DAVID CARRADINE? DANNY TREIJO?? REALLY? Yes really.)

Since the show, which was a week ago, I have had this song stuck in my head. It was the last one they played and one of like 4 or 5 (SHAME) that I actually knew. Its like a hit or something.

The tickets were free at the last minute. My office is above the Boston area office for Radio Disney. They are awesome people and I consider some friends. They gave me the tickets since I had made it known previously my friend Erin LOOOOVES the JoBros. This is another reason I know some songs. REALLY!! So I got a last minute email that they had some tickets and asked if i wanted some. A few phone calls later we were on our way. Scared.


Well, it wasn't too scary. Tween girls are ok and too wrapped up in OMGNICKJOEKEVIN!!!! to be too annoying. THERE WAS AMAZING SCREAMING LIKE I HAVE NEVER HEARD. I was too old and WAY too cool for NKOTB so I had never seen anything like this. It was insane.

As far as the Jonas' they seem like very nice boys. I also enjoy people who have a sense of humor about who they are and what they do. These boys have it. I am convinced that is one of the things that makes you last in The Fame Machine.

The other is talent. They actually have some of that too. Two of them play instruments, one plays like a million of them. The songs are cute and catchy. Honestly I am curious and borderline exited to see what they can do with a few years and out of the influence of Pixy Dust.

So yes, I saw the Jonas Brothers. I have also seen Slayer. Wanna fight about it?





Eventually I will be able to complete Day 16 continuing the 30 days but today is not that day.

30 Days of Music Day Fifteen: A Song That Describes You: 4 Non-Blondes ~ Spaceman

I am way behind on this. 4 days to be exact. This week is busy, getting ready for vacation is hard. I also saw Adam Lambert which was awesome. And as much as I wish I could use one of his songs for this one I really can't (I am tempted to use "Sure Fire Winners" here, ha!)

From the first time I heard it was "my" song. It was when 4 Non Blondes was just having a hit with that other song everyone knows. I was 18 years old. Not saying that I haven't changed much since I was 18 but this song still feels like me.

Linda Perry is an amazing songwriter. Thank you Pink for bringing her back into music.

I am not much of a hip hop person, but I think Snoops first album is AMAZING.

this question was hard, I am pretty open about what I listen to no matter how embarrassing (see day 13) but I don't really let people know that I enjoy some hip hop. I think mostly because I know so little of it since I think a lot of it is LAME.

I have no excuse. I am a Simpson Sister fan. I want to be their BFF and make them rebel against their dad and drink wine coolers and talk about boys.

30 Days of Music Day Twelve: A Song By a Band You Hate: Papa Roach ~ Scars (Acoustic)

HATE is a strong word. I dislike this band . I LOVE this song, only acoustic though. Weird.

I think this way the feeling is more evident. I hate this nu metal crap. It's one of the few kinds of music I don't like AT ALL (the other being reggae). But yep, love this song.
